The Africa Natural Capital Accounting Community of Practice () is a regional platform that connects professionals from governments, development institutions, NGOs, and academia to advance natural capital accounting (NCA) across Africa. NCA is a vital tool for sustainable development, helping address environmental degradation, climate change, and biodiversity loss, while supporting countries in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
By integrating environmental, social, and economic data, NCA supports informed decision-making. Its cross-sectoral nature requires strong collaboration to generate policy-relevant statistics aligned with the UN¡¯s System of Environmental-Economic Accounting () framework.
?The Africa NCA CoP was established to promote NCA as a tool for sustainable development across the continent. It has supported this goal through targeted training, regional knowledge exchange, and science-policy collaboration. Mainstreaming NCA strengthens evidence-based policymaking, and a clear strategy is essential to scale up its adoption and advance green, inclusive, and sustainable development in Africa
?About the Strategy
To guide its future work, the CoP developed the Africa NCA CoP Strategy 2025¨C2030, with financial and technical support from the World Bank¡¯s Global Program on Sustainability (GPS). Endorsed at the Africa NCA Policy Forum in Nairobi (September 2023), extensive consultations were held with CoP members, and the strategy was subsequently approved by the CoP Steering Committee. The Strategy sets out a clear vision to strengthen regional leadership, foster collaboration, and scale up NCA implementation across the continent.
Webinar Objective
This webinar marks the official launch of the Strategy and brings together CoP members and stakeholders¡ªfrom governments and development partners to academia, civil society, and the private sector. It will also serve as a platform to discuss resource mobilization and explore opportunities to support the Strategy¡¯s successful implementation across Africa.
